Cellula Robotics Ltd is seeking an AUV Operations Engineer or Technician to support our growing client base, test and operate our AUVs during sea trials, delivery and ongoing operations, and contribute to the research, design, and development of both cruising and hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs).

Requirements & Summary

Cellula Robotics Ltd is seeking an AUV Operations Engineer or Technician to support our growing client base, test and operate our AUVs during sea trials, delivery and ongoing operations, and contribute to the research, design, and development of both cruising and hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs).

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent – or – relevant technical diploma
5+ yrs relevant experience
Eligible for Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident status (security clearance requirement)

Responsibilities:

Maintain a strong working knowledge of our various AUV platforms, across all subsystems, for the purpose of operations, troubleshooting, upgrades, software updates, tuning, training, and customer support.
Travel to client locations for piloting, operations, training, support, and upgrades for their AUVs, occasionally with short notice for emergency service calls.
Be a “go to” resource for all aspects of AUV design & operation and provide technical leadership to inform R&D, innovation, projects, and requirements.
Work within projects and across projects to help generate CONOPS documents, training material, requirements, safety and emergency procedures, SOPs, etc.
Support the creation and management of QA systems for AUV design and operations support.
Understand and be able to explain how AUVs work, from basic hydrodynamics, through actuator motion, sensor feedback, filtering, control loops, communications stacks, and low & high level software layers, and be able to explain the fundamentals of key types of navigational & payload equipment, including: GPS, GNSS, INS, FOG, RLG, DVL, USBL, MBES, SSS, SAS, SVP, SBP.
Participate in the selection, evaluation, configuration and operation of key AUV components.
Write clear, concise and accurate AUV system level documents, including:
Requirements specifications & design documents
Risk analyses
Interface control documents
Test plans & reports
Lead AUV sea trials from a technical stand point. This includes:
Performing as lead AUV “pilot”
Writing & testing mission plans that meet operational objectives while minimizing risk
Setting operational parameters such as limits, fault thresholds and fault responses
Tuning AUV systems in water
Making operational trade-offs as needed while considering objectives, risks, resources and environment (e.g. weather)
Provide AUV training to clients.
International travel will be required
Offshore work will be required
Security clearance eligibility will be required

Desirable Skills & Experience:

Eligible for P.Eng or EIT with EGBC
4+ years’ experience operating multiple types of AUVs
Microsoft: Windows, Word, Excel, Visio
Linux: Ubuntu, ROS
MTBF and reliability analysis
“Seamanship”, e.g. Small boats, knots, weather
Subsea electrical systems and sensors
ISO 9001 quality environment
BOSIET, medical, etc. for offshore work
