UDT 2021 Takes Teamwork to the Underwater Domain

12.11.2021
UDT 2021 takes place 15-17 December in Rostock, Germany

Senior military personnel and industry experts will put the operational dynamic of ‘teamwork in the underwater domain’ front and centre when the global undersea defence community comes together at UDT 2021 in Rostock, Germany, in December.

Accepted as one of the harshest operating environments on earth, cooperation and collaboration - the essence of teamwork - are critical aspects of achieving full-spectrum dominance in underwater warfare. From tactical to strategic operations, missions such as seabed protection, mine warfare and anti-submarine warfare rely on teamwork between manned/unmanned platforms, across national fleets and joint maritime forces.

UDT aims to bring industry, academia and research organisations into this collaboration, to support operators in expanding their maritime global presence, leveraging existing capabilities, and developing new technologies and methodologies within the complex and unrelenting underwater domain.

Within the teamwork theme, the UDT conference has been built around four core pillars: Platform Design; Sensors & Processing; Uncrewed, Remotely Piloted & Autonomous Systems; and Operational Drivers & Imperatives.

The conference will open with senior military personnel delivering insights into ‘the Golden Triangle of Undersea Defence Development’, with opening remarks from RAdm Jon Pentreath followed by the keynote address from RAdm Ulrich Reineke, Head of the Planning Department, German Naval Command; and a panel session including representatives from the navies of Spain and the Netherlands and the UK MOD, alongside the German Navy.

Day two will open with a keynote and panel session on ‘German Naval Development Programmes’; while day three will open with a keynote on ‘German Naval Research Programmes’, followed by presentations on ‘Maritime research: An evolutionary approach’, ‘Multi-static Sonar Performance Prediction’, and ‘Vector Sensors for Maritime Uncrewed Systems’, from the Bundeswehr Technical Centre for Ships and Naval Weapons, Maritime Technology and Research.

“The UDT conference and exhibition is unparalleled in its ability to connect top-ranking naval personnel, the brightest minds in academia, the most innovative aspects of industry and policy decision makers, all working with a single goal to deliver innovation and capability for the underwater domain”, RAdm Jon Pentreath, Senior Naval Advisor, Clarion, said. “It has been a long two years since we have been able to come together at UDT, so it is with an immense sense of anticipation that I look forward to welcoming old and new friends and colleagues to Rostock next month to get to grips with the challenges facing our sector, and how we can – with teamwork - overcome them.”
