Only Weeks to Go Until Global Offshore Wind 2023

25.05.2023
Global Offshore Wind 2023 (GOW) is the UK’s largest meeting place for everyone involved with the offshore wind industry. Returning to London on 14-15 June, this event offers an exceptional programme, world-class speakers and endless networking opportunities. It will be a place to get to grips with the latest project achievements, market trends, innovations and ambitions for the sector.

The show will also be the perfect platform from which to network with like-minded people, to share ideas and experiences, to get inspired and to connect with the wider offshore wind community. More than 5,000 attendees are expected to attend, meaning there will be a plethora of individuals and teams to engage with from all corners of the profession. Among the visitors will be over 200 companies in the exhibition – which is already sold out despite being newly extended following its massive success and popularity last year!

A dynamic programme
The two-day programme will consist of numerous lectures and seminars, interactive sessions, panel discussions and debates, giving everyone in attendance the opportunity to learn and get involved. More than 200 speakers will share their expert insights into market trends, project milestones and innovations in the making, with a spotlight on technology and paving the way for the net zero future we all want.

Of particular note will be the Ministerial keynote address by Graham Stuart MP, Minister of State in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, UK Government, as well as Ed Miliband, Labour MP for Doncaster North. Delegates will get to hear first-hand how the Government plans on supporting offshore wind energy and be able to ask questions during the Q&A.

Beyond this, the main programme will take delegates on a journey that considers energy security, the global supply chain, integration of offshore wind projects, the potential of floating offshore wind, developing electricity markets, workforce investment, sustainability in the sector and so much more. There will also be sessions exploring specific projects and sites, including development of offshore wind in Scotland, floating wind in the Celtic Sea and even growth of projects in the US. Important conversations around the future of the market will also be brought to the fore, considering what is needed to accelerate growth of offshore wind, what the main challenges will be and how we might collectively overcome them. The need for increased efficiency, reduced operation and production costs and continued investment remain key for all involved. Only by coming together, collaborating and sharing ideas will we find the solutions needed to support effective and sustainable growth of the sector. That’s what makes events like GOW23 so crucial for the industry.

Additional theatres
Of course, the main programme will be complemented by additional theatres presented by our trade partners. The Energy Transition Zone will be hosted by ScottishPower Renewables and will explore an array of interesting topics. Sessions will cover further opportunities for circular economy, decommissioning and end-of-life financing options for offshore wind farms, hybrid monopiles, seabird compensation measures, ecological monitoring, encouraging community buy-in for offshore wind projects, large-scale off-grid hydrogen production from wind energy and more. Speakers will also share some of the relevant ideas that have been applied around the world, with insights from the US, Brazil, Colombia, Portugal and Italy.

In the Innovation Theatre, which will be presented by Vestas, attendees can expect a similarly full programme. Yannis Dragotis – Head of Renewable Energy Innovation Delivery at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero – will present “Overview of the Floating Offshore Wind Demonstration Programme”, providing interesting insight into the latest news and developments of this scheme. Other sessions will discuss the latest sensitivity studies of wind and metocean site conditions, cost modelling for floating offshore wind farms, commercial scale projects, cabling, shared anchors in rock for floating systems, turbine inspections and the potential of robotics, open data, subsea cable installations and various other subjects of interest to delegates.

Finally, the Supply Chain Hub will be hosted by Venterra Group and will create a platform for discussions focused on supply chain development and growth. Experts from the field will share their thoughts on everything from global challenges in the supply chain, pinch points for the floating wind supply chain, engineering shortfalls in offshore wind, key factors for supply chain in emerging markets and sustainable contracting principles. There will also be updates from Copenhagen offshore partners and the Irish market.

All of these theatres afford various opportunities to connect with industry experts, to converse with peers and engage with the wider offshore wind community. For industry members, the B2B Networking Zone will provide additional networking too.

Engage and discover
Furthermore, the trade exhibition will be the perfect place to follow up with product specialists on technologies, software and training programmes mentioned in sessions. More than 50 countries will be represented with a combination of manufacturers and suppliers, developers, planners, architects, builders, engineers, safety experts, government officials, inspectors, members of the press and more in attendance.

The considerable list of networking events for GOW23 include the After Networking Drinks on Wednesday 14 June in the Platinum Suite of the ExCeL London, as well as the Switch List Coffee Morning for those involved with RenewableUK’s diversity and inclusivity initiative. There will also be complimentary refreshments available throughout the show from the RWE Business Lounge, RenewableUK stand coffee, Ocean Winds Juice Bar and EnergiCoast Drinks reception on Wednesday 14th June 4-5pm. The ability to interact in real-time with so many people also means you can establish new relationships for the future and strengthen existing affiliations for enhanced partnerships moving forward.
