Fugro Supports the Netherlands’ Energy Transition with Site Investigations for RVO’s Nederwiek Wind Farm Sites II & III (Noord)

Fugro has been awarded two geotechnical investigation contracts for the development of the Dutch Nederwiek wind farm sites II & III (noord). The contracts, awarded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), are part of the Dutch Government’s Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap 2030/31, which aims to accelerate the development of offshore wind in the Netherlands. Once completed, the wind farms will deliver a total installed capacity of approximately 4 GW.

Benthic Completed CPT Site Investigation for Equinor’s Baltyk II and III Offshore Wind Farms in the Baltic Sea

Benthic, a Geo-services brand in Acteon’s Data and Robotics division, completed a site investigation comprising cone penetration tests (CPTs) using its portable remotely operated drill (PROD) that has enabled the design of foundations for about 100 wind turbines and two offshore substations for the Baltyk II and III wind farms offshore Poland in the Baltic Sea. The work for the developments, which are 50–50 joint venture between Norwegian energy company Equinor and Polish power utility company Polenergia, was performed at 16 locations in 40–55 m water depths.

Acteon Geo-services awarded floating wind site investigation by BlueFloat Energy and Renantis Partnership

TerraSond and Benthic, Geo-services brands in Acteon’s Data and Robotics division, have been awarded a combined geophysical and geotechnical survey work scope by the BlueFloat Energy and Renantis Partnership for its Bellrock and Broadshore wind farms northeast of Aberdeen, Scotland. BlueFloat Energy and Renantis joined forces to develop floating offshore wind projects in response to last year’s ScotWind licensing round. When operational, the Bellrock and Broadshore wind farms will have capacities of 1200 and 900 MW, respectively.

bp and EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG have awarded Fugro a geotechnical site investigation contract for their new offshore wind farms, Morgan and Mona, located in the Irish Sea. This marks bp’s entry into the UK’s offshore wind power sector and, when complete, Morgan and Mona will have a combined generating capacity of 3 GW, sufficient to power the equivalent of 3.4 million UK households with clean electricity.

Fugro has been awarded a geotechnical site investigation survey contract for the Hollandse Kust (zuid) Wind Farm Zone. This follows previous contracts awarded earlier this year for geophysical survey and metocean monitoring at the same site. The work will be performed using dedicated geotechnical DP2 vessels from the Fugro fleet. Taking place over a period of two months, it will result in an integrated geological/geotechnical soil model of the site.

Horizon Geosciences’ revolutionary, 200kN Seabed CPT system was used recently with great success on a complex geotechnical site investigation for Vattenfall, offshore Denmark. Horizon’s scope of work centered around turbine locations in the North Sea windfarm as well as infield cable routes. The programme of work included downhole sampling and CPT testing, seismic CPT testing, pressuremeter testing, P-S Logging, vibrocoring and seabed CPTs.
