FET to Supply Work-class ROV to UK Ministry of Defence

The subsea product line of Forum Energy Technologies has secured a contract from the UK Ministry of Defence Salvage and Marine Operations (SALMO) team to supply a work class remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The system has been acquired by SALMO following an Urgent Capability Requirement (UCR) from its customer, which was announced in May. The ROV will complement and increase the existing UK Defence salvage capabilities managed by SALMO and will be used to support salvage and wreck surveys.

Cellula Completes CRD100 Seafloor Drill Maintenance and Upgrade Program

Cellula Robotics Ltd. has successfully completed the mid-life maintenance and upgrade to Fukada Salvage and Marine Works Co., Ltd. (Fukada)’s Unicorn-1 Seafloor Drill, based on Cellula’s CRD100 Seafloor Drill. The upgrades, including improvements for increased automation and a new user interface, incorporates many lessons learnt from the last six years of offshore work, resulting in greater operational efficiency, functionality and lifespan of the drill.

Phoenix and Supsalv Perform Salvage of F-35C Aircraft in South China Sea

Phoenix International Holdings, Inc. (Phoenix), under the direction of the U.S. Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV), located and recovered a downed U.S. Navy F-35C Lightning II aircraft in the South China Sea from a depth of 12,400 feet. Working aboard the offshore construction vessel Picasso, Phoenix and SUPSALV deployed the U.S. Navy’s Autonomous Underwater Vehicle “Trondheim” to locate the aircraft. The Phoenix and SUPSALV team then used the U.S. Navy’s Remotely Operated Vehicle “CURV 21” to attach specialized rigging and lift lines to the aircraft. The aircraft was lifted to the surface and hoisted aboard Picasso.

Phoenix and Supsalv Perform Deep Ocean Salvage of C-2A Aircraft

Phoenix International Holdings, Inc. (Phoenix), under the direction of the U.S. Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving, located and recovered the fuselage of a downed C2-A Greyhound aircraft from the depth of 18,809 feet using the deep ocean remotely operated vehicle CURV 21. The aircraft, which was lost in November 2017, was recovered at the request of Commander Pacific Fleet in order to facilitate the mishap investigation.

SMD’s Quasar WROV Reaches 5760m Subsea

Soil Machine Dynamics Ltd are pleased to announce that a deep-sea Quasar Work Class Remotely Operated Vehicle (WROV) has successfully completed sea trials. The 6000m rated WROV, complemented with an electric drive dual-purpose winch and Launch and Recovery System (LARS), reached the seabed at 5760m during the trials. The complete turnkey solution was recently delivered to Shanghai Salvage and has undergone extensive testing at various depths. The system was supplied with interchangeable winch drums which can be changed out on deck to achieve operational service at depths up to 3000m or 6000m when required.

Another Major Gas Hydrate CSEM Mapping Campaign Completed in Japan

Ocean Floor Geophysics Inc. (OFG), in cooperation with Fukada Salvage and Marine Works Co. Ltd. (Fukada), has completed a third high resolution Controlled Source Electromagnetic (CSEM) survey of near surface gas hydrates using the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (Scripps) Vulcan system for the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japanese waters.

SMD Design and Build Innovative 6000m Electric Winch and LARS for Shanghai Salvage

Dedicated deck equipment engineers at Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD) have successfully completed work on an electric drive dual-purpose winch and Launch and Recovery System (LARS) to accompany an order from Shanghai Salvage for a Quasar Work Class ROV. The equipment will be used for salvage operations in deep waters around the world, with an assured maximum working depth up to 6000m.

SMD wins contract for supply of Quasar MKII System

Wallsend, UK: Shanghai Salvage Company (also known as China Offshore Engineering Shanghai, Co), a state owned entity who have a long history in diving and salvage have signed an order with SMD for a Quasar MKII 6000m remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2017, the system will include a full suite of equipment suitable for both deep sea salvage and oil and gas operations.
