Sustainable monitoring of the marine environment is crucial for the environmentally responsible operation of offshore wind farms and the protection of biodiversity. In the SeaMe project, RWE is collaborating with leading research partners to develop innovative technologies for comprehensive ecosystem monitoring. The goal is to replace costly, invasive, and CO2-intensive methods. The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) is contributing by equipping an autonomous underwater vehicle with oceanographic sensors and artificial intelligence technologies to enable safe navigation and precise data collection.

Interocean Secures Four-year Extension with Vattenfall

Specialist provider of offshore support services, Interocean Marine Services (Interocean) has been awarded a four-year extension to its frame agreement with multinational power company, Vattenfall. Strengthening the existing relationship, the new contract will see Interocean introduce its remotely operated vehicle (ROV) inspection services to support Below Water Balance of Plant (BOP) for the Thanet, Kentish Flats, and Kentish Flats Extension wind farms, alongside the Aberdeen and Ormonde offshore wind farms it already supports.

Seaway7 Awarded Offshore Wind Contract in UK

Subsea7 today announced the award to Seaway7, part of the Subsea7 Group, of a substantial1 contract by ScottishPower Renewables for the transport and installation of the inter-array cables of the East Anglia TWO offshore wind project. ScottishPower Renewables £4 billion East Anglia TWO offshore windfarm will be located around 33 kilometres from the east coast of England in the Southern North Sea. Successful in the UK Government’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round in September 2024, it will contribute up to 960 MW of clean, green energy – enough to power the equivalent of almost one million homes.

Petrobras will Invest BRL 60m in BRAVO Buoy's Phase Two

Petrobras will invest BRL 60 million in a new sea wind testing and measuring phase by releasing new BRAVO buoy units to collect, monitor, and assess offshore wind resources. The technology, designed in an unprecedented way for the Brazilian sea, is the outcome of a successful R&D I project by the Petrobras Center for Research, Development, and Innovation (Cenpes) in partnership with the SENAI Institute of Renewable Energy Innovation (ISI-ER), and the SENAI Institute of Onboard System Innovation (ISI-SE). The first five new units will start operating in December, while the others will be in late 2025, resuming the projects that began with the pioneering Bravo unit, which has just completed one year of nonstop wind measuring operations in the Areia Branca Sea on the coast of Rio Grande do Norte.

Fugro has successfully completed four years of continuous survey operations in New Jersey and New York for US-based offshore wind developer Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind. Supporting the site assessment of five projects across three lease areas totalling 1,000 km², Fugro worked with Atlantic Shores to pioneer a new data collection and management approach that increased survey efficiency by 30% and contributed to the recent federal approval of Atlantic Shores South, which will provide 2,800 MW of clean energy to New Jersey.

Rovco Awarded Contract for Green Volt, Set to be One of World’s Largest Floating Offshore Wind Farms

Rovco has been awarded the site characterisation operations for Green Volt floating offshore wind farm, located 80 km east of Peterhead in Scotland. Scheduled to be fully operational in 2029, Green Volt will become one of the world’s largest offshore floating windfarms. It will consist of up to 35 floating turbines and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 1 million tons per year, contributing up to 1.5 TWh of clean energy to the UK annually.
