Saipem Strengthens its Fleet with the Bareboat Charter of a Latest Generation Drillship

Saipem signed a bareboat charter contract with the Samsung Heavy Industries Company yards for a new drillship, the Samsung Santorini which will be delivered in November 2021. The bareboat charter of about two years duration allows Saipem to strengthen the competitiveness of its fleet without investing in new assets, but by leveraging its consolidated expertise in the selection and management of technologically advanced vessels. The contract with Samsung still provides for the option to purchase the ship, which can be exercised at the discretion of Saipem depending on the trend of demand.

Equinor and the partners Petoro, Vår Energi and Total E&P Norge have decided to develop the Lavrans discovery and the Kristin Q-discovery which is a part of the Kristin field. This constitutes phase 1 of the Kristin South project, and today the plan for development and operation (PDO) will be submitted to the minister of petroleum and energy. Capital expenditures for this first phase will total about NOK 6.5 billion.

It’s also our go-to testing ground for various hydrographic survey equipment aboard our unmanned survey vessels (USVs). AWS Wave Energy Converter Takes Shape in Glasgow Ahead of Testing

Last week AWS Ocean Energy achieved a critical milestone in the construction of its 16kW Archimedes Waveswing wave energy converter when the two major sub-assemblies were joined together and the Waveswing finally took shape. Final hook-up of the internal systems is now under way at Malin Marine in Glasgow and AWS expects to start commissioning and dry-testing early in July, before deployment at the European Marine Energy Center (EMEC) in Orkney later this year.

The University of Guyana, on Thursday, 17 June 2021, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Caribbean Oceanography Aquaculture and Subsea Technology (COAST) Foundation to collaborate on the establishment of a Subsea Centre of Excellence training facility. This would now allow the University to deliver world-class programmes designed to prepare students for careers in Subsea Operations and Engineering.
