ACUA Ocean and HydroSurv, two UK-based companies specialising in maritime autonomous systems, have announced their intention to merge, combining extensive expertise in the development and operation of Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs) and associated technologies for marine surveying and surveillance.

Kraken Robotics announces that it has received a purchase order for subsea batteries valued at $16 million. Deliveries will occur in 2023 and 2024. The purchase order includes a significant advance payment. With this order Kraken has now received more than $30 million of purchase orders in the last 6 months for its SeaPower® subsea batteries. Since the beginning of 2022, Kraken has announced more than $120 million of contracts providing us solid visibility for our strong growth trajectory we are on.

Italy’s DST (Deep Sea Technology) has chosen a 1000m-rated Saab Seaeye Falcon DR robotic vehicle to support archaeological research and offshore energy. The Seaeye Falcon DR will be employed by Naples-based DST, a commercial diving business, across its operations supporting offshore energy and maritime archaeology in both shallow and deep waters. The Falcon package includes a Tritech Super SeaPrince sonar and skid-mounted five function manipulator and rope cutter.

Industry leader in marine robotic software solutions Greensea Systems will be showcasing its advances in utilizing artificial intelligence for data collection and evaluation in subsea robotics for defense applications at the flagship naval and maritime exhibition Combined Naval Event, 23 – 25th May 2023 in Farnborough, UK. This is just one element of a wide-ranging spectrum of capabilities of untethered, autonomous ROV operation that Greensea delivers, and will be discussing during the event.

Hydromea, a Swiss-based autonomous underwater robotics company, partnered up with Unplugged, a Norwegian leader in inductive charging and data transfer technology, to develop a resident underwater drone system for continuous inspection and monitoring of underwater assets. The partnership received EUR 2M in grant funding from their respective national organizations and the project will take 30 months to complete. Under the project, the partners will develop a robust, resident drone solution with the initial focus on the aquaculture industry. The system will be designed to remain underwater for months at a time and perform daily data sweeps, providing farmers with up-to-date comprehensive condition monitoring of its operations remotely.

Teledyne Marine and the U.S. Navy successfully executed the first-ever undersea glider launch from a helicopter and the first-ever successful deployment from an aircraft. The Teledyne-owned Slocum glider, configured with Littoral Battlespace Sensing – Glider (LBS-G) mine countermeasures (MCM) sensors, was launched from the ramp of U.S. Navy helicopter flying “low and slow” over shallow waters. Teledyne Marine provided Slocum glider piloting and technical support in theater. "We are excited to be a part of another series of firsts! In this instance, the first launch from a helicopter and the first-ever successful glider deployment from an aircraft. The International WorkBoat Show is the largest business-to-business commercial marine expo in the United States. Nauticus Robotics, a developer of autonomous robots using artificial intelligence for data collection and intervention services for the ocean economies, today announced it has been awarded an additional $2.7 million under its current contract with Leidos Holdings, a FORTUNE 500® science and technology leader. The funded extension allows continued development of an Aquanaut-derivative in preparation for customer adoption decisions and government opportunities expected later this year.

The Sarcos Guardian Sea Class underwater manipulation robot is designed to provide human-like manipulation capabilities in complex and often dangerous underwater environments. Its flexible two-armed system can be teleoperated or controlled with optional autonomous and semi-autonomous control.

The United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted permission to Kongsberg to use the 5.725-5.850 GHz communications band for its Maritime Broadband Radio (MBR) products. The permission was granted in 2022, with a focus on deliveries in 2023 and beyond.

An additional 5.4 million square kilometres of new data - equating to an area twice the size of Argentina - has been added to the definitive map of the world’s ocean floor, with 24.9 per cent of the seabed now mapped. The latest figure was announced by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco during the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Assembly, currently taking place in Monaco. Formed by the representatives of its 98 Member States and Observers, the Assembly meets triannually to discuss new developments in technical standards, ocean mapping and agree on resolutions to guide activities.
