2G Robotics, NOAA, and OARS Collaborate to Document Historical American Shipwrecks

2G Robotics recently collaborated with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary to document America’s maritime heritage. 2G Robotics and NOAA, with the assistance of Offshore Analysis & Research Solutions (OARS), used 2G Robotics’ underwater laser scanning technology to create 3D models of some of America’s most nationally significant shipwrecks.

STR announce partnership agreement with dredging tool specialist Subsea Tooling Services

North east schools put in strong performance at international ROV comp

Two north-east schools have performed strongly in an international underwater robotics competition, finishing in the top 20 teams from across the globe. The teams, from Mintlaw Academy and Robert Gordon’s College, competed in the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Centre’s 2016 ROV international final in the United States, which took place at the end of June.

TTS Syncrolift appoints ROCOL as lubricants supplier

Global technology leader and lubricant manufacturer, ROCOL, has secured a key agreement with the world’s leading shiplift company.TTS Syncrolift, which manufactures 90% of all shiplifts worldwide, has appointed ROCOL as its recommended lubricant manufacturer. Norway-based TTS Syncrolift is part of TTS Group, a global organisation that designs, develops and supplies equipment solutions and services for the marine and offshore industries. ROCOL products will be applied to all new build shiplifts by TTS.

New UK marine technology show launched

The week long programme of workshops, talks, demonstrations and networking builds on the success of our 2015 Marine Autonomy Showcase, and the launch of the Marine Robotics Innovation Centre, and is in response to the growing desire of UK marine technology businesses to engage with the Research base for the further development of Marine Autonomous Systems.

Top honours for OpenHydro at Marine Industry Awards

Tidal technology developer OpenHydro, a DCNS company, has been honoured in three categories at the Marine Industry Awards which took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Galway last night, Thursday 30th June. The Offshore Ireland Award, Excellence in Marine Renewable Energy Award and the Overall Marine Excellence Award were secured by OpenHydro for its pioneering activities in the development of tidal turbine technology.

Ocean Installer completes first deep water mooring job

Ocean Installer has recently completed a mooring recovery and reinstallation project for a GOM production facility. Work location was in ultra-deep water (>2500m) and this is Ocean Installer’s first mooring job at such water depths. The project was executed by Ocean Installer’s operating center in Houston, Texas and covered management, detail engineering, planning, mobilization, material handling, transportation, recovery- and re-installation operations to replace the mooring lines.

The Underwater Centre and Bibby Offshore link up to offer apprentices unrivalled ROV experience

Scottish subsea training facility, The Underwater Centre, has linked up with Bibby Offshore to provide ROV apprentices with the opportunity to gain practical hands-on experience, unavailable anywhere else in the world. The apprentices, who are employed by Bibby Offshore but are still too young to go offshore, will benefit from operational experience in the field with live ROVs and will undertake a wide variety of tasks including the mobilisation/demobilisation of the work class ROV

Expedition to test new technologies for deep sea deposit exploration

A research expedition leaving Southampton today, led by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), will address the massive technical challenges in exploring for sea-floor mineral deposits. This expedition will take place on board the RRS James Cook, marking a decade of service that has seen this ship travel 218972 miles in pursuit of science – the equivalent of circumnavigating the globe ten times.

UK’s oldest deep-water Marine Protected Area successfully protects coral reefs

A unique study recently published by scientists from the National Oceanography Centre and University College Cork shows that deep, cold-water corals are very slow to recover from damage. Therefore deep-water Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) protect vulnerable marine ecosystems most effectively when they are put in place before that damage occurs.

Fugro deploys its Q1400 trenchers at three North Sea Oil and Gas Projects
