Nominations Open for Annual Subsea UK Awards

Nominations have opened for the 2017 Subsea UK Awards. Now in its 11th year, the awards seek to recognise companies and individuals who are leading the way in Britain’s successful £9billion subsea sector. Entries are being sought for the best subsea company of the year (large and small), the most promising young person in the sector, the most exciting new enterprise and the individual who has made the most outstanding contribution to the subsea industry. The awards will also recognise achievements and innovations in technology, sponsored by Simmons & Co International, safety and exports.

NSRI to Support Companies Get Their Technology Off the Ground

The National Subsea Research Initiative (NSRI) is hosting its second annual Developers Day event on 15th September in a bid to further support companies to get their technology to market. The session will feature a series of presentations outlining available resources and the support organisations which can provide assistance with research and development, tax, funding and patenting.

Sonardyne delivers collision avoidance sonar to MARSS Group for new private vessel

Maritime security company, Sonardyne International Ltd., UK, has announced that it has supplied forward-looking sonar technology to MARSS Group of Monaco for a 120 metre-plus private vessel that was recently delivered to its new owner in Europe. The NOAS (Navigation and Obstacle Avoidance Sonar) system was specified for the unnamed vessel to allow it to explore remote, poorly charted places with the assurance that potentially hazardous underwater obstacles can be identified and avoided. The contract also included the supply of Sonardyne’s market-leading diver detection sonar, Sentinel. This complements the NOAS installation to enable the detection of underwater intruders approaching the vessel when stationary.

Sonardyne delivers acoustic positioning simulator to Brazilian DPO training school

Equipment that simulates acoustic positioning operations on dynamically positioned (DP) rigs and ships, has been supplied by Sonardyne Brasil Ltda. to vessel control and automation company, GE Power Conversion for their new training school in Macaé. The Sonardyne Marksman hardware and 6G Sim software will be used to provide student DP Officers (DPOs) with an understanding of the important role acoustic positioning has in assisting a vessel to remain in a specified location whilst underwater operations are being conducted.

Ashtead Technology Lands Deal with Dutch Engineering Firm

Aberdeen-headquartered Ashtead Technology has secured a deal with leading international contractor Van Oord to provide the latest generation of video processing systems for worldwide offshore construction operations. The agreement will see Ashtead supply five SubC Imaging DVRO systems to the Dutch-based company, allowing them to record multiple 3D, HD and SD video channels simultaneously for future offshore construction, dredging and marine engineering projects.

New Underwater Robotics Company Positioned For Success - Rovco awarded first UK contract

A new subsea company has officially launched today (5th September) with the announcement of its first UK contract. An independent company focussed on underwater integrity, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), surveying and subsea services for both oil and gas, and renewables, Rovco has secured a contract with a UK Marine Trust.

Topaz and ABB renew longstanding vessel contract for wind farm support

Topaz Energy and Marine, a leading offshore support vessel company, today announced the renewal of its long standing contract with ABB for the Topaz Installer, Topaz’s specialized cable laying vessel. Under the terms of the contract, the Topaz Installer will provide ABB with cable-laying services in support of wind farms in the North Sea for a period of one year plus options of at least 12 months. The contract was first signed in 2010.

Wood Group secures engineering framework agreement with DONG Energy

Wood Group has been awarded a new engineering services framework agreement by DONG Energy, to support their oil & gas assets across the Danish, Norwegian and UK continental shelves. Front end development, maintenance and modifications, engineering, and late life and decommissioning services, for both topsides and subsea facilities, will be provided under the four year contract, which is effective immediately.

Hydraulic cutting systems specialist, Allspeeds, announces its largest standard Webtool fibre rope cutter so far. The Webtool SL165 softline ROV tool is capable of cutting soft and fibre ropes up to 165mm diameter. It can be deployed either on the manipulator arm of a work class ROV or integrated within a maritime handling system, in both cases the cutter operates at any water depth.

Wood Group secures subsea tieback detailed design scope with Statoil in the North Sea

One Step Closer to the Seafloor - New Underwater Robotic Vehicle Tested in Guam

APRA HARBOR, GUAM – After a month of completing rigorous tests in the open ocean off the island of Guam in the western Pacific, the new Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) SuBastian is returning to shore. Schmidt Ocean Institute (SOI) has been working this summer, testing and integrating it’s new ROV from aboard its 272 foot oceanographic research vessel Falkor.

It occupies half of Floor 2 of the Glasgow Science Mall shining a spotlight on one of the biggest challenges facing modern society; the future of our energy supply. Through a series of over 60 interactive exhibits, they ask visitors how we can meet increasing energy demand reliably, and at an acceptable economic and environmental cost. The AC-ROV 100 gives visitors the experience of piloting an underwater micro ROV. The budding pilot will be able to fly through 8” pipe which is located in the purpose built tank.
