Subsea 7 today announced the award of a sizeable(1) contract by Fieldwood Energy to Subsea Integration Alliance(2), a global partnership between Subsea 7 and OneSubsea, a Schlumberger company. The award is for the deepwater Katmai field development in the US Gulf of Mexico’s Green Canyon 40.

AutoNaut USV accompanies The Ocean Cleanup in the Pacific Ocean

An AutoNaut unmanned surface vessel (USV) has been launched alongside the revolutionary system of The Ocean Cleanup, the non-profit organisation deploying advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. The Ocean Cleanup System 001, also known as “Wilson”, is undergoing extensive sea trials approximately 350 nautical miles from San Francisco, to test the behaviour of the system. If all goes well, it will relocate to the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” (GPGP) where it will begin the challenge of removing tonnes of plastic debris. The role of the AutoNaut USV is to conduct long-term monitoring of the surrounding environmental conditions and provide information on “Wilson” itself.

Phoenix SRDRS Receives Operational Readiness Certification

The Phoenix Submarine Rescue Team deployed on board the M/V HOS DOMINATOR 9-19 July and completed eight days of submarine rescue operations off the coast of Catalina Island, which culminated in a satisfactory Operational Readiness Evaluation (ORE) by Undersea Rescue Command’s (URC) parent command (Submarine Squadron ELEVEN) to maintain certification of the operators and equipment for independent operations. This periodic evaluation specifically certified URC and Phoenix to participate in the eighth iteration of the CHILEMAR exercise in San Diego waters and the SSN RESCUEX this fall in Alaska. The SSN RESCUEX will be the first time that the Submarine Rescue Diving and Recompression System (SRDRS) will mate with a US submarine.
