As the countdown begins to Ocean Business 2025, more details can be revealed about the line-up of exhibitors at the global technology and science exhibition for marine industries. The UK’s National Oceanography Centre (NOC) has been awarded £4 million to bring next-generation sensing capabilities to its marine autonomous systems fleet for use in advancing sustainable ocean science. The funding, from the Natural Environment Research Council’s (NERC’s) Future Marine Research Infrastructure (FMRI) programme, will support three projects by leading scientists and engineers at NOC to develop advanced sensors targeting 10 different biogeochemical essential ocean variables, from physics to nutrients and carbon. These will then be integrated on to autonomous underwater vehicles such as gliders and NOC’s Autosub Long Range (ALR).

Forum Energy Technologies (FET) has launched its latest work class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), the XLX EVO III, marking a new generation in Ultra-Heavy-Duty subsea vehicle technology. The U.S. Navy has recently awarded a series of contracts, under Program Executive Office, Unmanned and Small Combatants (PEO USC), to facilitate Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Mine Countermeasures (MCM) Mission Package (MP) deployments. The MCM Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) is an unmanned, diesel-powered surface craft that can be launched from an LCS, vessel of opportunity, or shore. Its modular flexibility allows integration with multiple payload delivery systems that perform MCM missions, including minesweeping, mine hunting, and mine neutralization. By awarding these contracts, the Navy is ensuring it has the most advanced unmanned systems to effectively conduct mine countermeasure missions in the littorals.

Greensea IQ, a leader in subsea robotics and defense solutions, was awarded a $5.36 million contract through the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and Darley of Itasca, IL for the delivery of customized Bayonet 250 Amphibious Underwater Ground Vehicle (AUGV) for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Littoral Explosive Ordnance Neutralization (LEON) project.

Seasats, the San Diego-based innovator in autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), has successfully closed a $10 million strategic funding round led by Shield Capital (SHIELD), a Silicon Valley venture capital firm specializing in dual-use technologies advancing national security. The round also included Aero X Ventures, Techstars, and other investors. This funding will fuel growth as Seasats continues to deploy maritime autonomy solutions around the world.
