Scientists aboard Schmidt Ocean Institute’s research vessel Falkor recently discovered and explored a hydrothermal field at 2,000 meters depth in the Gulf of California where towering mineral structures serve as biological hotspots for life. These newly discovered geological formations feature upside down ‘mirror-like flanges’ that act as pooling sites for discharged fluids.

Moog Focal is pleased to announce the launch of the latest 914-X series expansion card: the 914-DX. This expansion for the 914-X series system features six isolated and software configurable serial channels for RS-232, RS-485, RS422, or TTL. Up to four of these cards may be stacked with any 914-HDE motherboard giving each system up to 24 extra isolated serial channels. SMD’s Quasar WROV Reaches 5760m Subsea

Soil Machine Dynamics Ltd are pleased to announce that a deep-sea Quasar Work Class Remotely Operated Vehicle (WROV) has successfully completed sea trials. The 6000m rated WROV, complemented with an electric drive dual-purpose winch and Launch and Recovery System (LARS), reached the seabed at 5760m during the trials. The complete turnkey solution was recently delivered to Shanghai Salvage and has undergone extensive testing at various depths. The system was supplied with interchangeable winch drums which can be changed out on deck to achieve operational service at depths up to 3000m or 6000m when required.

Aleron Group acquires subsea motors specialist to dive into new markets

Aberdeenshire-based subsea firm Aleron Group has acquired electrical drive engineering specialist IMPAQ Ltd. to support its expansion strategy into new technology and markets including military, defence and nuclear industries. Following the deal, the Group has been awarded its first contract in the academic sector.
