Up to three survey vessels will be deployed to carry out a detailed pre-construction survey including a search for unexploded ordnance (UXO) up to approximately 34 kilometres off the coast of Thorsminde. Kraken’s contract scope includes mobilisation of a dedicated survey vessel, deployment of optimal sub-bottom survey equipment, and expert personnel to provide specialist engineering design support to de-risk the installation of the project’s two large offshore substations. This survey campaign will be executed in Q4 2023 with Kraken’s Acoustic CorerTM technology providing accurate, high resolution 3D imaging of twenty-four sub-seabed cores, with the cores placed to maximise coverage over the foundation leg locations.

Discovery of Two Historic World War II Aircraft Wrecks in the Trondheimsfjord

In a remarkable exploration beneath the surface, the Royal Norwegian Navy's HUGIN Team 1 discovered two new aircraft wrecks in Trondheimsfjorden. The well-preserved World War II wrecks were quickly identified as the legendary Blohm & Voss BV-222 Wiking V2 and the Heinkel HE-115 S4+DH. The wrecks lie at an impressive depth of 318 and 253 meters, respectively, and have never been visited by divers or submersibles before. The last few weeks a team at Blueye Robotics have conducted several dives with underwater drones in the fjord to capture the first close-up images of the seaplanes in around 80 years.

HII is Awarded $347 Million U.S. Navy Lionfish Small UUV Contract

HII announced today that its Mission Technologies division was awarded a contract to build nine small unmanned undersea vehicles (SUUV) for the U.S. Navy’s Lionfish System program. The contract has the potential to grow to as many as 200 vehicles over the next five years with a total value of more than $347 million.
