Fugro and Damen have teamed up to provide the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) with a surveillance vessel and operating crew. The Dutch Ministry of Defence has contracted this new partnership to enhance its marine security and surveillance capabilities. The RNLN will deploy the surveillance vessel to conduct security operations within the Netherlands’ North Sea exclusive economic zone (EEZ), both above and below the water. Using advanced technology like uncrewed vehicles, it will enable the RNLN to monitor vessel activities in the North Sea and survey critical underwater infrastructure, such as cables and pipelines.

Fugro and Spoor, a software company that helps renewable energy projects reduce their environmental impact, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop a new bird-monitoring solution for offshore renewable energy projects. This innovative system will not only help protect bird populations but also supports the growth of renewable energy by making environmental assessments more affordable, cleaner, and safer.

Fugro has been awarded the contract for offshore soil investigation services for the proposed Blue Mackerel offshore wind farm in Australia. When complete, it will become one of Australia's pioneering offshore wind energy projects. Located off the coast of Brataualung and Tatungalung country in Gippsland, Victoria, the project will play a critical role in Australia’s clean energy transition.

Fugro has successfully tested the DOT-NM Autosampler, a new device developed by Dartmouth Ocean Technologies Inc. (DOT) and NatureMetrics. The trial took place in the marina directly outside of the Fugro office in Portchester, UK. This advanced technology rapidly generates biodiversity assessments by collecting environmental DNA (eDNA) samples autonomously, reducing project time and costs.

Fugro has acquired EOMAP GmbH & Co. KG (EOMAP), market leader in mapping and monitoring of marine and freshwater environments through satellite Earth Observation (EO). Adding EO technology to Fugro’s existing mapping solutions is a key step in the company’s strategy to further expand into the water market.

Building on a 25-year legacy of successful collaboration, Fugro has been awarded a new five-year contract by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for hydrographic survey services. Under this indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, Fugro will support the creation and maintenance of highly accurate nautical charts, which ensure safe and efficient maritime navigation within U.S. waters. Projects can be assigned to any of the six companies holding an IDIQ contract based on NOAA’s ongoing priorities.

Fugro is significantly expanding its role in the Florida Seafloor Mapping Initiative (FSMI), a multiyear effort by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to map the state’s seafloor for improved coastal resilience, infrastructure planning and environmental protection. Building on its previous award of 14,000 square kilometres of airborne lidar data for the FSMI, Fugro is now conducting vessel-based surveys across 42,000 square kilometres offshore Florida.

Petrobras has signed a 175-day addendum to Fugro’s current inspection, repair and maintenance services contract, performed by the Fugro Aquarius, to include fully remote subsea inspection surveys of shallow-water infrastructure in Brazil. Work will begin in January, leveraging Fugro’s advanced Blue Essence® uncrewed surface vessel (USV) and Blue Volta® electric remotely operated vehicle (eROV) technology to enhance inspection safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Fugro has been chosen by Ørsted A/S to undertake a 12-month floating lidar measurement campaign for their Gippsland offshore wind farms, off south coast Gippsland, Victoria. Fugro’s advanced SEAWATCH® Wind Lidar Buoy will measure wind, wave, current and meteorological parameters to help assess the viability of Ørsted’s wind farms located off Gippsland, Victoria.

Fugro has successfully completed four years of continuous survey operations in New Jersey and New York for US-based offshore wind developer Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind. Supporting the site assessment of five projects across three lease areas totalling 1,000 km², Fugro worked with Atlantic Shores to pioneer a new data collection and management approach that increased survey efficiency by 30% and contributed to the recent federal approval of Atlantic Shores South, which will provide 2,800 MW of clean energy to New Jersey.

Community Offshore Wind, a joint venture between RWE and National Grid Ventures, has selected Fugro to perform a geotechnical investigation of their lease area in the New York Bight. With 3 GW of offshore wind energy potential, the developed lease area could power more than one million homes in the region, making a valuable contribution to the US energy transition.

Following the successful launch of the Middle East's first fully remote survey vessel in 2022, leading Geo-data specialist Fugro has announced the arrival of its Blue Shadow® class uncrewed surface vessel (USV), in the Middle East. Crafted for precise hydrographic mapping and bathymetry surveys, the Blue Shadow® will play a crucial role in addressing the rising demand for accurate hydrographic data in the Middle East, where infrastructure development, port expansion, and coastal management initiatives are at an all-time high.

Fugro has signed a memorandum of understanding with Commercial Dive Academy (CDA) and AMC Search (AMCS), to collaborate on bringing Fugro’s highly acclaimed Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) Induction Course to Australia. This 4-week ROV Induction course is an ideal entry point into the ROV industry and will be presented by CDA at their facility in Beauty Point, Tasmania.

Fugro will perform geophysical and geotechnical surveys needed to support front-end engineering design for offshore production facilities, the submarine pipeline to the onshore LNG terminal and CO2 injection infrastructure. Geo-data will be acquired using Fugro’s deepwater autonomous underwater vehicle Echo Surveyor 8 and a robotic seafloor drill, deployed from Indonesian support vessels. Fieldwork is expected to start in the second quarter of 2024.

Fugro has been selected to map the coastal habitats of the entire Italian coast as part of the Italian government’s Marine Ecosystem Restoration (MER) Project, a groundbreaking initiative under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
