Fugro is strengthening its regional offshore operations through the establishment of a Remote Operations Centre (ROC) in Kuala Lumpur. The new communications hub will allow Fugro experts to remotely control offshore survey operations, delivering safer, more efficient and more sustainable projects.

Successfully delivered in October 2025, the survey covered both the wind farm site and the export cable corridor, located approximately 12 nautical miles off the coast of Rimini in the Adriatic Sea. Fugro deployed two dedicated vessels to accelerate data acquisition and ensure efficient coverage of the area. This dual-vessel strategy enabled high-resolution mapping of the seabed and subsurface conditions, using ultra high-resolution shallow seismic data and geophysical investigations, while also identifying and preserving potential archaeological features critical to the project's planning and permitting process.

Fugro UST21 has completed offshore geotechnical site investigations for Ørsted’s 1.4 GW Incheon offshore wind project in early August 2025, located approximately 70 km off the coast of Incheon, South Korea. The project is set to become the largest offshore wind farm in the country and plays a pivotal role in Korea’s transition to net-zero emissions by 2050.

These munitions, many of which have been submerged for over 80 years, are increasingly unstable and pose a growing environmental and safety risk. As their casings corrode, toxic substances like TNT, a carcinogenic and mutagenic compound, leak into the ocean and threaten marine biodiversity, human safety, and fishing industries. Building on extensive research and the experience of previous EU-funded projects, the consortium is focused on implementing new technologies for large-scale recovery.

Fugro and NOAA Ocean Exploration have entered into a five-year Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to design and deploy remote and uncrewed technologies that will accelerate deep-ocean mapping and characterisation. This public–private partnership aims to close critical data gaps in one of the least understood parts of our planet, enabling informed decisions about offshore energy, marine resource management and national security.

Fugro’s work will involve deploying advanced remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) aboard Constellation-managed vessels to carry out subsea equipment inspections, interventions and a range of observation and survey activities. The first campaign will begin this quarter in the Campos Basin on board the vessel Tidal Action, followed by a second deployment in early 2026 in the Equatorial Margin on board the Amaralina Star.

Fugro has been awarded a significant contract for the 700 MW Youde offshore wind farm by Shinfox Energy in Taiwan’s Round 3.2 offshore wind tender. Under this contract, Fugro will deliver comprehensive geotechnical services to support the development of the Youde project, located off the west coast of Taiwan.

Fugro has been awarded a 7-year framework agreement with EirGrid, Ireland’s state-owned electricity transmission operator, to deliver a full suite of Geo-data surveys for the “Powering Up Offshore - South Coast” project. This initiative will develop offshore electricity substations and export cable routes to connect future wind farms along Ireland’s south coast to the Irish national grid. Fugro's Geo-data insights will be key for selecting optimal routes and engineering designs, reducing project risks and promoting safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible development.

Fugro has announced a partnership with DTACT, a high-tech software company, and Ubotica, a leader in AI-powered satellite intelligence, to develop a unique data fusion and intelligence platform. This solution is designed to provide government organisations with the information needed to strengthen national security and safeguard critical underwater infrastructure.

Notably, these contracts will see an expansion of Fugro’s pioneering remote operations capabilities, including the remote piloting of ROVs. This innovative technique was first deployed successfully in Brazil from the Fugro Aquarius in 2023, in collaboration with Petrobras. The approach relocates people from the field to the office environment, enhancing efficiency, and enabling real-time data analysis for faster decision-making.

Fugro has been awarded a contract to run a comprehensive site characterisation programme for an Eni operated development of a deepwater gas project in the Eastern Mediterranean. This award marks an important survey campaign for Fugro in the region, supporting the ambitions of the Republic of Cyprus to become a regional gas producing and exporting country and contribute to enhanced energy security and affordability for Europe.

Fugro has been awarded a contract by the Norwegian Hydrographic Service (NHS) to support the 2025 MAREANO seabed mapping programme. For the first time in its history, MAREANO will use uncrewed surface vessel (USV) technology to acquire the data, with Fugro deploying its new 18 m Blue Eclipse® USV for the initiative. This innovative approach aims to advance the move towards lower carbon emissions in seabed mapping while ensuring high-quality data acquisition for the responsible management and preservation of Norway’s marine resources.

Fugro has recently donated two EdgeTech Deep Tow survey systems to the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency. This donation is part of Fugro’s ongoing support of global ocean science initiatives and aligns with its active role in support of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Fugro and Damen have teamed up to provide the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) with a surveillance vessel and operating crew. The Dutch Ministry of Defence has contracted this new partnership to enhance its marine security and surveillance capabilities. The RNLN will deploy the surveillance vessel to conduct security operations within the Netherlands’ North Sea exclusive economic zone (EEZ), both above and below the water. Using advanced technology like uncrewed vehicles, it will enable the RNLN to monitor vessel activities in the North Sea and survey critical underwater infrastructure, such as cables and pipelines.

Fugro and Spoor, a software company that helps renewable energy projects reduce their environmental impact, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop a new bird-monitoring solution for offshore renewable energy projects. This innovative system will not only help protect bird populations but also supports the growth of renewable energy by making environmental assessments more affordable, cleaner, and safer.

Fugro has been awarded the contract for offshore soil investigation services for the proposed Blue Mackerel offshore wind farm in Australia. When complete, it will become one of Australia's pioneering offshore wind energy projects. Located off the coast of Brataualung and Tatungalung country in Gippsland, Victoria, the project will play a critical role in Australia’s clean energy transition.

Fugro has successfully tested the DOT-NM Autosampler, a new device developed by Dartmouth Ocean Technologies Inc. (DOT) and NatureMetrics. The trial took place in the marina directly outside of the Fugro office in Portchester, UK. This advanced technology rapidly generates biodiversity assessments by collecting environmental DNA (eDNA) samples autonomously, reducing project time and costs.

Fugro has acquired EOMAP GmbH & Co. KG (EOMAP), market leader in mapping and monitoring of marine and freshwater environments through satellite Earth Observation (EO). Adding EO technology to Fugro’s existing mapping solutions is a key step in the company’s strategy to further expand into the water market.
