NATO mine countermeasures group strengthens Allied capabilities during Turkish-led Exercise NUSRET 2025

On 26 October, the ships departed port and took part in a traditional photo exercise (PHOTEX) involving eleven naval units – a striking display of Allied cooperation at sea. Following the PHOTEX, SNMCMG2 minehunters carried out intensive mine countermeasures (MCM) operations, demonstrating exceptional professionalism, precision, and teamwork. Over the course of the exercise, seven dummy mines were successfully detected using Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and recovered by the task group, underscoring NATO’s advanced capabilities in ensuring maritime safety.

Record Number of Participants Deployed Kraken Robotics’ Synthetic Aperture Sonar at REPMUS 2025

Kraken Robotics announces that a record number of participants used its synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) technology at the annual Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Unmanned Systems (REPMUS) exercise in Portugal. Seven international naval teams and three uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) manufacturers deployed Kraken SAS for maritime security exercise applications including mine countermeasure operations and critical underwater infrastructure inspection, demonstrating interoperability across platforms, nations, and mission objectives in the underwater domain.

Babcock International Group (Babcock) and HII (NYSE: HII), signed a memorandum of understanding to bring together HII’s REMUS unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and Babcock’s world-leading submarine Weapon Handling and Launch Systems (WHLS). The goal of the collaboration is to deliver autonomous launch and recovery of UUVs via submarine torpedo tubes, strengthening the undersea advantage of allied navies. This is the first program of its kind within the Babcock Mission Systems business.

Key waterborne demonstrations to look out for will be the L3Harris Shadow Fox high-speed, multi-purpose Autonomous Surface Vehicle, which is capable of operating beyond-line-of-sight for extended periods of time. Also from the UK, ACUA Ocean’s USV Pioneer provides the space, weight, and power to safely deploy senor and system payloads of up to 6.5 tonnes in up to 4m wave heights. Representing Latvia, VIC TEC will be showcasing its autonomous naval solutions that promise to enhance and support military operations through its unmanned surface vehicles equipped with torpedo launch and air defence systems.
