Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is recruiting a SENIOR MARINE AUTONOMY SPECIALIST, to provide expertise in marine autonomous systems as advice and guidance to the Sector Lead, Wave & Tidal Energy and to shape and deliver new projects across the industry. This role will be based at our Hayle, Cornwall office and will require frequent visits to companies in and around the South West and the UK

Requirements & Summary

What will I do?

The role will deliver:

Expertise, research and development in autonomous systems design and operation, dissemination of information at industry and academic forums.
Support to the Sector Lead, Wave & Tidal Energy to develop commercial opportunities from technical applications working directly with industry (Original Equipment Manufacturers / Small Medium Enterprises) and academia.
Provide technology assurance support to autonomous systems developers.
Expertise to advise Catapult’s Collaborative Offshore Subsea Systems research accelerator (COSS) with the University of Plymouth.


What are we looking for?

Degree or equivalent in a technical, mathematical or scientific discipline
Track record in industry or academia in design and deployment of autonomous systems.
Experience of working in a management or strategic consultancy environment, or related academic experience.
Experience of environmental science or oceanography research.
Understanding of the regulatory framework for Maritime Autonomous Systems and Uncrewed Aerial Systems.
Understanding of cyber vulnerabilities and cyber security research and development. - desirable.
Understanding of modern data architecture, management, QA, GIS and data science methods.
Understanding of artificial intelligence methods such as machine learning, pattern recognition, metaheuristics, and evolutionary algorithms.
Experience of preparing bids and developing projects would be advantageous.
Our ideal candidate will be a clear and confident communicator with a methodical and analytical approach to problem solving and the ability to translate theory into practice.

Salary up to £48,000 per annum, dependent on experience
